Our Family Standard

Here's the plan for the kids. Read it, and if you're in, hit approve at the bottom. I want us on the same page before we start.

Where this came from. I saw a video of a dad who set one daily standard for his kids and never let it slide, even when they tried to cheat it. His whole point was that it only works if both parents hold the line the same way. That's why I'm sending this to you first. If we're not aligned, the kids will find the crack.
A normal day. They read 20 pages and do their drill, that's the gate. Then their chores. Finish it all and 30 minutes lands in their weekend screen bank. Learn a real skill, that one pays cash.
1The StandardThe Gate
The daily must-dos. These come first, every day. Skip them and they earn zero screen that day, no matter how many chores they do.
Everyone
Read 20 pages
Aubrey
Read 20 pages + indoor soccer dribbling drill (carpet area)
Ashton (8) & Austin (6)
Read 20 pages + 25 hits off the tee + 25 throws into the target (indoor net)
Numbers are a starting point. We set the real ones.
2ChoresEarn Screen Time
Running the house. No cash for these. Finish the standard and all 6 chores in a day = 30 minutes of weekend screen, banked. Miss the standard and the day is a zero. 5 full days = 2.5 hours for the weekend.
All or nothing to start: the whole list earns the 30 minutes. We can loosen it later if it feels too strict.
3SkillsEarn Money
The reach goal. Learn and finish a real skill, earn actual money (or a bigger screen bonus). This is how they see that effort makes money.
Small win $3 (finish a book, tie their shoes). Medium $5 (a full times-table set, cook a simple meal). Big skill $10 (ride a bike, swim a lap). We build the list together.

The part that makes it work

This one's on us, not the kids. Hold these four the same way and it runs itself.

  1. Same standard, both of us. Neither one overrides the other in front of the kids.
  2. The gate is real. No screen until the standard is met. No "just this once."
  3. We agree the consequences ahead of time, so the rule holds the line, not our mood.
  4. We back each other up right then, and talk out any disagreement in private.
This one matters to me. Let's raise them right, together. - Ant

Are you in?

Say yes and I'll build it into the Family Hub this week. Or tell me what to change.
